What is Falling Walls Lab?

Falling Walls Foundation founded the Falling Walls Lab in 2011. This competition encourages scientists around the world to break academic barriers, promote interdisciplinary innovation, and solve practical problems. Each year, preliminary competitions are held in different cities on five continents, and winners from various regions are invited to participate in the final competition in Berlin and the international renowned Science and Technology Innovation Conference- the Falling Walls Conference, which is hailed by the BBC as the “Brightest Minds on the Planet” and is the world’s top technology innovation exchange platform.

We look forward to participants spending 3 minutes in the competition to showcase their research projects to everyone, clearly explaining the issues and solutions of the projects. Experimental projects must have originality, interdisciplinary characteristics, and positive and inspiring content. Winners from all over the world will go to Berlin, Germany to participate in the global finals.

Falling Walls Lab Guangzhou

Falling Walls Lab Guangzhou is the primary station of Falling Walls Lab, which is hosted by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the German Chamber of Commerce in China· South & Southwest and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology( Guangzhou), with kind support of the Consulate General of Germany in Guangzhou.

Qualifications: At least 18 years old, all bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, postdoctoral, young researchers, entrepreneurs, and scholars in various disciplines can apply. At least one of the following criteria must be met:

You are currently studying at a university,

You are currently a postdoctoral fellow,

You have been receiving a bachelor’s degree for no more than 10 years,

You have been receiving a master’s degree for no more than 7 years,

You have been receiving a doctoral degree for no more than 5 years.

Competition: Conducted in English, participants will spend 3 minutes introducing their research, clearly explaining the problems and solutions to be solved, mainly focusing on projects such as science, innovation, and development.

Application deadline : March 31, 2025, 23:59 (GMT+8)

Application materials

Resume, PPT (title: Breaking the Wall of…), a brief introduction to the problem described in the title, and your solutions to the problem.

Send your resume and PPT to the competition committee to marketing.guangzhou@daad.de.

 Email subject: Falling Walls Lab 2025+your name, please also name the compressed zip-package attachment: Falling Walls Lab 2025+your name.

The official language of this competition is English. All required materials must be prepared in English.

The competition committee will select and invite no more than 15 presenters to participate in the Guangzhou competition on April 26th 2025.
