First step: Beijing!

Our Falling Walls Lab Beijing application for 2022 is now open. Students, researchers, and early-career professionals can now apply to present their innovative ideas in 3-minute pitches. Applications are due August 30th. The Beijing round of the competition will then take place in September.

We are looking for:

  • Falling Walls Lab welcomes projects of all sizes, from grassroots to institutional scale – what matters most is the impact your initiative has.
  • Exemplary initiatives from all over the world with a transferable and/or scalable approaches to generate mutual learning and offer benefit for both science and the public.
  • Initiatives with measurable outcomes and long-term impact on their target group.

How to apply for Falling Walls Lab Beijing:

The application process is a two-step process. Applicants must submit their applications to BOTH Falling Walls Lab Foundation Berlin and Falling Walls Lab Beijing.

Applications can be submitted online until August 30th.

  • Go to Falling Walls Lab Foundation application website
  • Find and select “Beijing”
  • Complete the online form and attach your curriculum vitae
  • Follow the links to submit the form and CV to the Falling Walls Lab

 AND complete the Falling Walls Lab Beijing application:

  • Prepare your CV and ppt (using the title format “Breaking the Wall of…”), which includes a short introduction to the problem described in the title and your solution to this problem.
  • Please send your files to shaobo.fang@iphy.ac.cn and rig@daad.org.cn. The subject of the email and RAR attachment are all named  “破壁 2022”.
  • The organizers will select and invite no more than 15 applicants to participate in the final Beijing Competition in September.

On the anniversary of the historic fall of the Berlin Wall, the Breakthrough Day provides a stage for outstanding research presented in inspiring presentations. For the 14th time, “the brightest minds on the planet“ (BBC) will showcase their work.

The Falling Walls Science Summit is part of the Berlin Science Week from 1–10 Nov 2022. Since its first annual meeting on 9 November 2009, the 20th anniversary of the peaceful fall of the Berlin Wall, the Falling Walls Science Summit has continuously developed into a world forum for science. Some of the most important researchers and thinkers of our time gather at Falling Walls to discuss breakthroughs with global leaders in science, politics, business, and the media, answering the core question of the Falling Walls Science Summit: “Which are the next walls to fall in science and society?“ November 9th , 2022
