Scholarship Programmes for Ph.D. Studies in Germany

Council)
The DAAD offers in cooperation with the China Scholarship
Council (CSC) financial support for individuals who
would like to carry out a PhD research project at
a German higher education institution or non-university
research institute. Grants are available to graduate
students with a master’s degree and PhD candidates
from both universities and research institutes in
China and are open to all disciplines.

purpose of gaining a doctorate in China

projects at a German higher education institution
for the purpose of gaining a doctorate in Germany

Note: Support for a full doctoral program in Germany is primarily provided
in areas with insufficient research or academic supervision opportunities

Applications
have to be submitted in parallel both to DAAD Beijing
Office and to the CSC Office in Beijing (online

The application deadline for 2008/2009 is May 04.

The following documents must be be submitted
to DAAD Beijing Office in triplicate (1 set
of originals or
notarised copies, 2 sets of copies thereof).
Documents in Chinese always have to be provided
together with
a certificated translation.

For applicants for Sandwich scholarship in addition:
- admission to PhD-studies in China
Incomplete applications or applications sent to the
DAAD head office in Bonn will not be taken into account.
General application procedure
- Qualified
candidates will be invited to an interview
with a joint selection committee of DAAD and
CSC and
made up of Chinese and German Professors in
June 2008. The interview language will be English
or
German. Decisions will be announced in August
2008.
- Successful
applicants with limited German knowledge will
start a compulsory German language training in
September 2008. For
candidates from the natural sciences and engineering
the length of the German language training
is one semester, for candidates from the humanities
and
social sciences the length of the language
training is two semesters, i.e. the research
stay in Germany
will begin early 2009 (natural sciences and
engineering) or summer 2009 (humanities and social
sciences),
respectively.

With this programme doctoral students from institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) are provided the opportunity to perform part of their doctoral research in German universities and research institutions with the exception of Max-Planck-Institutes.

DAAD短期研究奖学金
DAAD为计划在攻读博士期间前往德国进行短期研究的年轻高水平学者提供资助。在特殊情况下,博士后候选人也可申请此项奖学金用于短期赴德研究。

- 与德国机构保持良好的长期联系,并获得了正式的邀请。
- 向德意志学术交流中心提交详细的学习和研究计划以及明确的工作进度表,二者须经中国和德国大学双方核准。
- 您应当在您所希望研究的专业领域具备良好的语言知识(根据研究需要,英语或德语:IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or TEM 8)。

Siemens-DAAD Postgraduate Program
Working together
in offering the "Siemens / DAAD Postgraduate Program", Siemens AG and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) aim to give young
and early-stage researchers who are particularly
qualified in specific subjects areas and who come
from selected universities in China, India and
Russia the opportunity to spend a longer period
of time doing research within the scope of international
projects. The individual research projects, which
will be supervised by researchers working at universities
in Germany, can be completed with a doctorate in
Germany or in the respective home country.
Please notice that the scholarship is only available for research stays at one of the German institutions listed in the program announcement.
The application deadline for research stays beginning in October 2009 (German language course beginning in August 2009) is November 30, 2008.

洪堡研究基金项目
(AvH Scholarship)
亚历山大·冯·洪堡基金会(Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung)资助博士毕业不超过四年的高税平外国学者,使他们能够在德国从事本人所选定的研究计划。研究资金在全球范围内通过选拔的形式发放,任何国家和地区的任何专业的学者都可随时提出申请。各国及各专业的申请者机会均等,不设比例。洪堡研究基金的发放只针对实施具体的学术研究计划,用于学者按照计划在德国境内从事研究工作,而不用于培训进修目的或短期的研究和会议到访。研究计划和研究所由访问学者自行择定。在访问学者向洪堡基金会提出申请之前,申请人应先与邀请方就项目细节和时间规划进行协商,达成一致意见。
评审在每年三月、六/七月和十一月进行。资助期限为6个月至24个月。访问学者最长可以在其他欧洲联盟国家的研究机构里做六个月的研究。
前提条件:
与德国博士学位同等的学术地位;高水平的学术论著;特别的研究计划;人文社会学科需具备良好的德语语言水平,医学、自然和工程科学需具备良好的英语语言知识;就业于中国高等院校或研究机构。
Alexander von Humboldt Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) enables young highly qualified scholars who hold doctorates to carry out research projects of their own choice in Germany. The prestigious programme is highly competitive (only up to 600 fellowships are granted worldwide every year). Applicants should already have published articles in international journals. Duration: 6-12 months, extension to up to 24 months possible
Age limit: doctorate within the last 4 years

Modern Applications of Biotechnology: Funding for Research Cooperation between
Germany and China
The programme "Modern Applications of Biotechnology" offers German respectively Chinese scientists the opportunity to personally
head a German-Chinese or Chinese-German Junior Researcher
Group. This programme by the Federal Ministry of
Education and Research (BMBF) and the Ministry of
Science and Technology (MoST) will be jointly managed
by the DAAD and the CNCBD.

Modern Applications of Biotechnology: Research Grants for Postdoctoral Students from China and Germany
The Exchange Program “Modern Applications of Biotechnology – Research Grants for Postdoctoral Students from China and Germany” is jointly run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) with the financial support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Ministry of Education (MoE). The program offers academically especially qualified post docs from China and Germany the opportunity to do research in relevant public-funded institutes in the respective country.
